Named after Lord Nuffield (1877 - 1963) and his family
He was a famous motor manufacturer, the founder of Morris Motors Limeted, and is considered one of Britain's greatest philanthropists. He is remembered as the founder of the Nuffield Foundation, the Nuffield Trust and Nuffield College, Oxford.
Nuffield College is a graduate college of the University of Oxford dedicated to advanced study and research in the social sciences, particularly economics, politics, and sociology. The College was established in 1937 when William Morris, also known as Lord Nuffield, donated land and provided a gift of £900,000 to the University of Oxford.
